Webster’s dictionary defines Conservation as: ” A Careful preservation and protection of something. Especially: Planned management of a natural resource to prevent exploitation, destruction, or neglect.” The most obvious reason is to protect and promote biodiversity be it flora or fauna. It’s impressive to see the Katy Prairie Preserve and all the hard work involved in reestablishing native grasses and habitats for migrating birds and native wildlife. Last week I taught a Plein-air Painting Workshop to benefit this worthwhile organization and we all had a great time! I love teaching plein-air because while painting you tend to examine the subject. Looking closely, after a while, one begins to fall in love with what you are painting. It stands to reason that if you love something, you take care of it. Amazon has a movie, “The Biggest Little Farm” about how biodiversity is used to balance crops and farm animals. If you haven’t gotten the importance of biodiversity, and native plants, this movie will help you Get It! And it’s entertaining and funny as well!
By The Way…Happy Halloween!
